Web Design
From a young age, I always wondered at how websites were developed and designed. I knew that I wanted to explore that area as I grew older. In school, we didn’t really talk too much about Website development or creation. Looking back, it was a bummer, but it only made me want to explore this area so much more. The biggest fear I had was how do I know this is for me? Where would I study? Or What do I study? These were all big questions that I had, and I still have the fear in my mind, as the things we like now can change. I do believe that a career in Web Development and Design is what I truly want. After doing my research, I realized that I wanted to study Multimedia. I was so happy but I was scared. I did a year course in Multimedia, that past year, and I must say I have never felt so at home before in a course. It was the best course suited for me. I was allowed to be creative, spontaneous, and allowed to try out new things. This course really opened up my eyes, and I got to explore my love for Web Development and Design. I also learned that I also loved Graphic Design, Film videoing and editing and much more.
In this year course, I had to create many different Websites, and I loved it. I not only loved the creative end that goes along with creating Websites, but I also found the process of coding very enjoyable. It really set my mind on becoming a Web Developer. I had to do research again on what course would give me the best qualifications to living out this dream. I learned that I would have to get a degree in Computer Science for this. It is very nerve wracking as it is totally different to what I do now, but I know it would give me all the skills I need for my dream.
In my year course, I have created about 6 different Websites, with all different colour schemes and fronts. I really enjoyed creating these as it let my creative flow. I kept my websites simple and informative. My tutors also admired my work and said I had a good eye for design. This really inspired me to continue doing what I am good at. Any free time that I have I am inspired to code even if it makes no sense or is relevant to my Website.
Most people probably don’t know what applications you can use to help code Websites. The applications that I use the most is Komodo Edit and Adobe Dreamweaver. Komodo Edit is a free application that you just download on your pc. It is very friendly to use. Dreamweaver on the other hand is not a free application. You can get a free trail once you sign up to Adobe. It costs around €12 for the application a month. This isn’t that bad as you have full coverage to the application. I use both as I like both applications.
You can also use WordPress to make a website. In my opinion if you’re a code person don’t use Wordpress. Wordpress gives you templates and allows you to use plug ins to create your website. It again will cost you. For only around €40 a year you can use it. There is an option in Wordpress for html or text. I like Wordpress but I would rather Komodo edit or Dreamweaver as I get to code it and improve my knowledge.
Web Development is always changing and new applications are coming out to try and help you to create the best website. If you are passionate about Web Development it would be wise to keep an eye out.
Here is my last website that I created in college. I hope it inspires you to continue doing what you love.

I am always so happy to see female coders. I try and work with as many as I can when I need help with something. Good for you, for doing what makes you happy.
