Hey, Guys! Today I'm going to talk to yous about how you can get recognized as a Photographer! Let's Jump in!!
First thing I can say is that you need to define what type of photographer you are. When you define and are comfortable with what type of photography or photographer you are/do, then getting recognized will be easier.
First of all what types of photography are out there?
There are many different types of photography from Commercial, Landscape, Abstract, Wildlife, Nature, Abandoned to Lifestyle photography. Getting into any of these categories is easy to say the lease. If you take pictures of fields, lakes, or even trees you would be considered a Landscape, Wildflie or Nature photographer. If you visit abandoned places or old places then you would be considered an abstract or abandoned photographer. A commercial photographer is more product related stuff, for example, food related images.
Once you define what category you fit into, being recognized come's a lot easier. There are many ways of being recognized as a photographer and I am going to talk about where you can be recognized and how you can with my tips.
Word Of Mouth
The best advice that I can give anyone is that word of mouth is very important, especially when trying to get your name out there. Either by talking to a friend or to a family member and telling them that you are a photographer or you do photography will intrigue them. This then allows them to spread the word about you. This is very important as it allows you to expand to your friends and family about your passion or career. Yout family members and friends will then tell their friends or work colleagues, and this then creates a ripple effect and your name is out there. You need to be confident when telling people about your photography and be proud of what you do.
Social Media
Social media will have a huge influence on getting your self-recognized as a photographer. Whether it be on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Pinterest. Having a social media account or many social media accounts make a huge different on gettin recongized as a photographer. The reason is that you get to engage with a wider range of people from all over the world. The beauty of social media accounts in 2017 is that you get to post images, text, have stories, vlogging becomes much easier and more people seem to be online to see your work. You can add links to all your social medias to inform people, whether it be a link to your blog post, website or even youtube video, people start to enjoy the easy accesablity of the links. Not having a social media account in today's society is ludacris.
Tips
Regarding social media accounts, it's best to have a professional Instagram account for your photography. This allows you to use this accout for your work and your work only. You can post the images that suit your theme, your style and vision. Having a theme is better for keeping a good audience flow. Filling out your bio on your instagram accout helps to inform people why you either created the account or where they can see more of your work. Using hashtags and tagging people / companies will increase your post reach and the presence of your Photography account online. Posting either a video or image a day is best. Don's over post images or videos on your account as people won't like this.
On Twitter you can again add links to your bio and other infromation to inform people. This is where you can also link your instagram, facebook page and youtube if you have any. On twitter you can follow people that inspire you who might'nt be on instagram. You get to tweet links to your instagram, youtube and blogger. This again gives a user or follower easier access to your work. You can add up tp four images with any given tweet and this is essental espically for a photographer. When you tweet something, don't tweet it without a picture, people want to see your work not read articles about it and see no work. Be creative, make a moodbaord of your work or a short video and send it off with your tweet. People will tend to stop and look at your tweet more with an image, than pure text and they will be more interested in you and you're work.
On a Facebook page, make sure you have a very good name that explains what your page is about and ensure that the name isn't very long. Something short and simple works a lot better. On your facebook page, make sure you have the about section filled in as this tells a new vistor to your page what its about, what you do, and why you set up the page. Make sure you have the page looking professional and have a logo of somesort or a header graphic giving a very quick overview of the page.Only use a few words in this banner. Keep your page updated every few days, don't leave it for a few weeks without an upload. This can lead people off from visting you're page as you don't have a good schedule when posting to keep people updated with your work. If you are going to post different types og photography on your page, choose a day for each type. This will keep people interested and intrigued about you're work. While posting any image or article, make sure you use hashtags to increase your pages reach, and make sure to @ people or accounts as this will direct traffic to your page a lot easier.
While on Snapchat, use their new link option. This is make it easier for people to swipe up to either like, leave a comment or share your work. Be confident while posting these stories. Post stories each day either with images or videos explaing what camera equipment you use and why. Posting you're snapchat name on your facebook or twitter allows your followers to get that closer with you. Ask friends or family members to share you're snapchat name to help increase you're following. You can also vlog very easily from your snapchat and this will attract others to your account also.
